(HEALING with Seunggi’s invitation, new year message, Gu Family Book anticipation!)
Typically, only the FINAL winners are listed in the press for the obvious reason that it’s just not really necessary at that point; that is, unless there’s a lot of controversy over the winner selections!~~ which we know well that controversy over award selections are almost a given with year-end awards in Korea! We’re used to it now!
This is all why, JUST winning an award becomes super important for stars and their management agencies. After watching the MBC Drama Awards in its entirety, I can totally see why the MBC Drama Awards caused a lot more uproar and backlash than the other broadcast awards, which aren’t that much different in terms of ‘other factors’ contributing to nominations, category selections, and wins.
So, here’s a list of ALL nominees, for ALL categories. Of course I wanted the actors and actresses and dramas I felt deserving to win, but if you know Korean awards by now, it was a given that Seunggi and Jiwon would not be attending. Top stars typically don’t attend year-end awards unless they receive an acting award. That’s just the way it is. Especially considering the politics involved in the awarding process.
While some of these nominee lists for certain categories are seriously unbelievable, and the sorta blatant awarding of certain drama projects that have registered or are currently bringing in mediocre tv ratings… still congrats to all the winners. It’s a great feeling to win an award and they worked hard too.
And while it still momentarily breaks my heart to think that Seunggi and Jiwon and The King 2 Hearts cast and crew, in addition to other MBC dramas, were not properly recognized (in comparison to some of the questionable dramas and actors/actresses that were)… that was all SO last year! 2013 has begun! And Seunggi’s new drama ‘Gu Family Book’ looks slated to be on MBC, so let’s hope MBC will be reflective about all that went down.
Thanks to The King 2 Hearts for bringing us topnotch acting and a drama that all the actors, actresses, production team (and Hearties!) can be proud of for a long time!

As far as I know all of those winners are just because the ratings? is it true?
They should do ‘Best Lead/Main Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category instead of this. So there won’t be Yoo Chun winning against Yoon Je Moon and Lee Sung Min which is totally ridiculous. And Han Ga In, I don’t blame her, she did her best she could, but for MBC to put her under Daesang makes this award laughable.
In the past, I remember there were a few couples winning the Best Couple category. So, I’m at least expecting our Ah-Ha to win that. But really, while I want to see Seunggi wins something, I’ll be completely fine if he goes home empty handed as long as the one who wins totally makes sense and the categories are not questionable like this.
I totally agree with you, they should have separate category for Lead Actor and Supporting Actor. When I watched the ceremony, I was shocked when I saw that PYC was nominated alongside the supporting / second lead actors. But I’m relieved that Seung Gi was nominated in the Top Excellence category with the other lead actors.
For Best Couple category, I started following Korean drama & year-end awards since 2008. From what I know, MBC only hands out 1 Best Couple Award, the couple who received the most votes (even though I always question the final results, as it usually never makes sense) would win the award. The other broadcasting stations are more generous to give more than 1 best couple award.
Just want to add : Shin Min A & Lee Jun Ki which is win the best couple award, also didn’t attend the ceremony, and read somewhere people also wonder if its because schedule conflict or b’cos the ridiculousness of the panel’s choice…
actors/actressess at a certain level do not attend year end awards to receive only a popular couple fan vote award.
actors/actresses at a certain level don’t go to tv year end awards shows to receive only a popular couple voted by fans award (baeksang awards or some awards show involving all channels is different).
The more I think about it, the more laughable and ridiculous all of this becomes.
