40% plus ratings Moon that Embraces the Sun took home the top drama program award, and Kim Soohyun and Han Gain won in the above categories. No matter what some people (including yours truly) may think about Moon that Embraces the Sun being overrated, there’s no denying that it was their year, so congrats to them.
Jo Seungwoo (32), popular film actor appearing in his first tv drama, and recently returning from military service, won the top Daesang Award of the evening, for Horse Doctor. Congrats to him (giving hope and representing guys on the shorter side!)
Sure, I would’ve loved Lee Seunggi to win an award for The King 2 Hearts, but thinking more broadly (like the wise Seunggi!)… Even though popularity awards are always nice, and winning some kind of acting award is great too…
I’m way more happy and uber super proud of the recognition he garnered for his place, and the notable company and Top Excellence Award category he keeps as an actor, reflecting the critical praise he and the cast received for the drama.
Honestly, I wasn’t thrilled to hear his new drama would be on MBC again. Same apprehensions I had when I first heard news about The King 2 Hearts. MBC, more so than KBS and SBS, have demonstrated some inexplicable ways in promoting certain dramas (via extension, specials, etc) despite mediocre ratings and popularity; and its history of recognizing and awarding its dramas and actors in strange ways is pretty well-documented, again in comparison to the other broadcast networks.
(FYI- Excellence Award is NOT the same as Top Excellence Award)
But even still, LSGfan is a lot like Seunggi…
meaning, being delusional and overly emotional is a NO! Not productive and lame.
Standards for success expectations always seem so much higher when attached to Seunggi?!?! but that’s a good thing! Because I want to see him for the long-run~~~!!
Everyone knows end of the year awards shows, especially in Korea, are more about other ‘factors’ than the craft of acting and overall drama production. Come on, let’s be real, so are most awards shows! Sure, it’s a great feeling to win (who wouldn’t like that?!?!), but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t! So, there should be no whining and no excuses.
Especially when we’re talking about Korea’s top beloved Lee Seunggi who wrapped a career turning-point drama as an actor, oozed chemistry and befriended Korea’s top actress Ha Jiwon, garnered the respect of Korea’s top veteran sunbaes Lee Soonjae and Yoon Yeojung, was mentored by top director Lee Jaekyu PD, and can proudly stand by his matured work through unforgettable drama, The King 2 Hearts.
It’s going to be the start of a new year soon~~~ 2013 Daebak!!!

I was more upset by what Seung Gi said in one of his interviews that he would like to win some awards (or did he say recognition?) for his work in The King 2 Hearts. Dear boy, even now, with such stellar performances under your belt, you were still obsessed about winning trophies, knowing some (or most) were cheap, dirty, or just plain cheating???
Already totally lost faith in K TV or entertainment awards some time ago…If Seung Gi still wants to add stars to his acting resume, the only sure way is to get a rating so high that even the most fickle/sleazy station cannot ignore. Is that a worthy goal? I am not sure at all.
He did say only singing gave him a sense of total control. How true!
I look forward to his new drama as eagerly as ever. But I won’t waste one iota of my energy on acting awards ever.

Well, he didn’t win for this one but will use the experience he got from the drama to grow and maybe win next time. :) He’s still really young and has room to grow, though he is completely deserving from K2H obviously. I didn’t expect K2H to win much because there were bigger hits on the network and that’s mainly what it’s about.
MBC is shady, though I’m not sure I trust the other networks any better though. I hope for the best. TBH, as long as he enjoys what he’s doing and I enjoy the drama I’m not too worried about much else, though obviously I want them to do a good job promoting it because he deserves the best.
*sigh* at the end of the day all they care about are ratings and popularity.. be it in dramas or the award shows.. hallyu star attract fans=more viewers=ratings…

Thank you so much for this post, I was in total rage since last week ever since I saw the post in dclsg that they’re boycotting the award. Deep down I knew that Seung Gi knew the results already and he wouldn’t attend the event.
But I’m so proud the whole tk2h casts to give us not a perfect but a heartwarming unique unconventional drama. It’s not everyone’s cup-of-tea, but the four leads, the senior actors & actresses, even the secondary characters acting & performance were outstanding.
Seung Gi was able to work with Ha Ji Won, Lee Soon Jae, Yoon Yeo Jung, PD Lee Jae Kyu and garnered praises from them truly made me proud of him. He’s grown by leaps & bounds through TK2H, gained more respects as an actor, and touched the heart of many fans & new fans. So glad that he’s nominated in the top excellence category, I agree that sadly this year is not his year to win the award, but for him to be nominated alongside all those great actors is an honor.
I wish him all the very best for 2013 in all aspect of his entertainment career. Fly even higher, Seung Gi ya…

for 3 years that i had known Seunggi it’s unusual for me not to see Him juggling from one station to another during year end awards..I admit that we’ve been spoiled a lot by Him always.
Seeing his transformation in K2H, we can’t help but to expect some recognition.. Yet, as what Seunggi said before He wants to stay long in this field* entertainment* so let Him enjoy & continue growing.. Wish him the best for 2013 & to all Airens!
Despite wanting to keep it cool and everything, my heart breaks a little seeing that K2H didnt win anything, most esp LSG, I remember him saying in an interview that he would have liked for his drama to be recognized in these kinds of award shows…but what can you do? Showbiz politics! When fans were fired up voting online for the popularity and best couple awards, I didn’t want to spoil their positivity that’s why i kept my mouth shut, but I knew this was going to happen. Esp MBC of all stations, they’re the biggest jerks when it comes to these things.
I hope to see that K2H will be hotly welcomed in its overseas airing, so much to warrant an overseas promotion for LSG (one can only hope right,lol).

Korean broadcast station year end award mostly is for the sake of entertainment. Take it as a gratitude gift from the broadcast station and we won’t surprise at all with the result :p
This year, Seung Gi didn’t get any gift from them. But I believe, deep inside he had reached greater achievement more than years before, and that makes me happy enough.
By this 2012 he achieve other milestone, in acting, in singing, and know that he is loved enough outside Korea. By 2013, I hope this feeling spread more and more, and he will able to achieve more and more.

I am shocked that Lee Seung Gi didn’t win the Best Actor Award!!!! I’d watched all the dramas and honestly, Lee JaeHa is still fresh in my mind…..while I can’t even remember much about the others character – esp. The one played by the winner of this category. It’s very disappointing that MBC is again giving out awards base on TV viewers ratings. I am surprised that MBC did not have 2 winners for this category – like they used to have in the past! The Korean acting award shows are becoming like a joke these days. Really can’t bear to watch or read about such trivial anymore…..!
I knew that it will be hard to see K2H win an award due to its rating, so more than the award, what I’ve been anticipating is to see the reunion of Ah-Ha couple again. I’m disappointed that they didn’t go to this ceremony knowing that they are not busy with anything at the moment. But I guess I was clueless to what was happening before this award took place. Seeing that even the korean fans boycotting it, I guess seunggi see no reason to show up there. Its sad to think that seunggi’s next drama will be on mbc again. But since seunggi accepted it, that means he’s totally cool about it so I have no reason not to. That’s just how the award thing works in Korea, what can we do. Here’s wishing the best of luck for seunggi’s next drama!
Let’s be positive way…Seung Gi didn’t win any award did something in our mood, I admit it. But hey….who in a famous K artist circle who did what he achieved in 2012 anyway ? acted in an awesome drama ( maybe 1st in a New Story line category ), become a’ Torch Bearer ‘, become Face of President Election Ambassador, have a long renewal CF contract, and have his New Trend collaboration album with Indie Music, not only as a singer but also as a producer, included with his Photo essay . He did famous with bringing a “New Trend”……which I believes will becomes a ‘New Trend’ in a K-E industry in the future.
He becomes an “Emperor” is not a jokes there….many of the artist there always says that he is like a celebrity even to them, He is young but he already stand out ….let’s support him all the way. Lee Seung Gi Fighting !!…( if the K Ent. Industry didn’t appreciated him, well ….we can abduct him and put him in our country…..he he he…I wish!!!)

Hi anne. with the ratings of MTEMTS i actually had a small hope that lee seung gi and other dramas who did not garner much ratings would get recognition. Because, whether we like it or not popularity has an effect on to whom the broadcast company will give the award. and i guess fan should be aware of that. :) the only things that keeps me hoping is the ‘popularity awards’ and if not the ‘best couple’ (well i was really surprised that arang team got it, and i’m happy).
nevertheless, what’s important is that seunggi learned alot from his latest drama and that, even if he did not get any acting recognition (come on who would not like an acting recognition) he still had recognitions in his music career.

I re-ran TK2H last night, to be honest the result of MBC Drama Awards really broke my heart into pieces >,<
But I was happy that LSG and HJW didn't attend the event, if they did that would hurt my heart more.
I can see the improvement of LSG's acting, he has proven himself as a real great actor through TK2H. He portrayed JaeHa's character very well, he acted his heart out when he dealt with Bong Gu, cried his heart out when seeing Hang Ah got shot and Eun Shi Kyung's death T___T. His acting was AMAZING and IMPRESSIVE!
I watched his past dramas, Brilliant Legacy and MGIAG, but TK2H made me a true fangirl of him. Despite of not winning any award from MBC, but you have won every hearty's heart !
