August 31, 2011. Seoul, Korea. A sharp dressed, wavy, well-coiffed Seunggi showed up at the Seoul Drama Awards as a presenter. Different vibe compared to last year’s clean-cut, flat-iron hairstyle when he won the 2010 Netizen Popularity Award. For this year’s award, when it was clear early on that Yoochun (winner) and Jang Geunsuk fans planned to all-out vote battle for first place, Seunggi fans in Korea were practical and didn’t do a voting drive since he won the award last year. And as a presenter, Seunggi was great! Very tall, at ease, confident, and articulate! Such a pro!~
I wasn’t still fully over the lame formula used at last year’s 46th Baeksang Awards that somehow placed Kim Nam Gil in the rookie actor category along with Seunggi. I like Kim Nam Gil, and he was very sweet in apologizing to Seunggi fans at the awards last year for winning the award! Ha. But, the guy had already acted in dramas and even in movies! And I didn’t watch Queen Sundeok, but was he even the main lead in that drama?
When did Lee Seung Gi become an idol?! Can you even be an idol as a soloist? No offense, but wish some of the press would stop lumping SeungGi in this category just because they feel like it. Yes, he is an actor and he is a singer; an idol he is not. Or at least I don’t think he is! Anyway, I still liked this article because the ranking wasn’t some random online survey or poll where fans just vote multiple times! On the 29th and 30th of last month, the lead actors in each of the Wednesday-Thursday dramas on the 3 different broadcast channels were all singers. In addition to SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong’s MBC “Playful Kiss” and Lee Seung Gi’s SBS “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho,” Rain’s KBS “Runaway Plan B” just began.
I can’t imagine anyone else playing the role of Cha Dae Woong in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho other than SeungGi! Good thing he decided on the Hong Sisters project, as it seems he was considering other drama projects as well.
