Tears Perfume – K.Will & Noel’s Jeon Woo Sung, starring Lee Seung Gi [Official MV, English lyrics, Stills]

(video: LOEN MUSIC)

The song sounds great, but hmmm, not what I expected at all for the full MV.
Made me wish they just played the teasers and images on repeat instead…

K.Will & Jeon Woo Sung (of Noel) – TearsPerfume (향수)
English translation (Lyrics): popgasa

As I’m walking on the street among the many people
There is a familiar scent, maybe it’s you
As if time stopped for a moment, with the faraway memories
I stood still and looked around

My heart starts to pound without knowing
I guess my heart remembers that perfume
No one else probably noticed, you’re probably not the only one who uses it
But I stop because of that familiar scent

Your scent that made me sad
Your scent that made me stop in place
Makes me think of our love, our memories, one by one

I keep thinking about your scent
Your scent that makes me miss you
It hurts me more and more, makes me shed tears
I long for you, who has left me, so I am standing still

The memories that I thought I erased
I remember them because of that perfume
No one else probably noticed, you’re probably not the only one who uses it
But I stop because of that familiar scent

Your scent that made me sad
Your scent that made me stop in place
Makes me think of our love, our memories, one by one

I keep thinking about your scent
Your scent that makes me miss you
It hurts me more and more, makes me shed tears
I long for you, who has left me, so I am standing still

Our goodbye that is fading away
The painful love, the painful memories
They find me again, making my heart cry
What can I do to forget you?

I keep thinking about your scent
Your scent that makes me miss you
It hurts me more and more, makes me shed tears
I long for you, who has left me, so I am standing still, standing still

While you can never go wrong with K.will and Noel singing…  I was seriously wondering what they were thinking concept and direction-wise for the MV.

You get Lee Seunggi, who never does stuff like this, to star in your MV.
And Son Minkyung from The SeeYa, to participate as his girlfriend…
And THIS is the final official MV?  After those awesome teasers?

Fine, the super talented K.will usually never does screen time in his MVs.
We’re used to that.  So we have Seunggi, along with Minkyung, telling the story.
And the mood and tone of the MV is very cool.

But then………………

Why is Noel’s Woosung (who is awesome), but why is he there strolling in looking like a Seunggi body-double with the same bouquet?

And what’s up with the Black Swan-esque dancers meandering about?  They get more close interaction with Seunggi and Minkyung, than the actual couple.

Honestly, the MV feel like disparate pieces (awesome on their own), rather than one seamless story.

And the ending… visually stunning (as is the whole MV), yet I still don’t get what’s going on.  BTS photo from the set makes me think all of them are equally perplexed.

Wish we got way more storytelling of the lyrics in the MV to match this great song.
(Return was a hit and had a deep impact because the MV and song were so in sync).
Please someone make an edited fanmade MV version!

Thankfully, there are super talented people singing and acting in the MV.
Makes me really anticipate Seunggi’s next music project…

  1. I didn’t understand the dance and what is that guy doing in the MC either! Hope Seung Gi will have his next music project soon!

  2. Yeah, the body double and burning piano (I mean why? Was that bit of cheesiness really necessary?) really threw me off. If you are going to cast actors as the main leads then they should be the only focus of the story. I can excuse the dancers–I’m assuming they are symbolic and doing some sort of interpretive dance that I just don’t get. And I can get over the whole ‘end of the world/apocalypse’ theme as it appears to be an imagining/sad fantasy that Seung Gi’s character walks into as he walks down the street –when the snow turns to roses– but again, why would he imagine the guy singing on a burning piano?! Alter ego? Older self (which would be preposterous as they look nothing alike)? It was pretty odd. But Seung Gi was gorgeous at the end (love the coat)!

  3. The concept has a lot of symbolism and not the usual story-narrating type of MV almost all Seung gi songs are made of. I was initially super confused, specially when I had no idea what the lyrics were saying. But I watched it so many times after and I get it – I think. It’s him remembering his girlfriend who died. The people suddenly running, the broken window where she sat in the end, the fire… Definitely hinting at an accident that occurred in the past. I think the white bouquet was for the funeral? The black was very evident throughout the video and those dancers are sorta keeping them apart(?) because she’s unreachable to him but he just keeps walking towards her even as she walks away.

Even the lyrics sorta hint to it in that he’s looking for her in the crowd even when he knows there’s a chance it’s not her. I think the video is him reliving what happened to her. As for what woosung was doing – I have no theories lol. Just that he could be narrating the story and the person looking at everything from the outside. Oh who knows? Haha I’m just making up stuff but it’s not your typical MV for sure. I wish they did a little more than have seung gi just walk around the same area the whole time following a girl. But then again I don’t hate it. I get the concept sorta. Just hope Seung gi doesn’t end up doing too much of a metaphoric MV in his next album lol.

  4. Omg I thought I was the only one who felt weird seeing Jung Woo-sung strolling out suddenly. He’s great but the concept…i dunno. Seems that one of the concepts is to keep the camera rolling (always moving never changing setting) but if they want to feature Jung Woo-sung I kinda wished they put him in a different setting (a studio set?with K Will! Waiting for the day he appears in his own MV. Haha.) A closeup of Seunggi’s face would be great too, since viewers can see him emoting perfectly and conveying the meaning of the song. Watching his expression+reading the lyrics really, really helped a lot in understanding the MV. Nonetheless, great voices with awesome features :)
