Strong Heart: TV Ratings, 2010.03.02 ~ 2012.04.03

MCs Hodong-Seunggi highlights! (video: rapport2010; Strong Heart Forum)

Now that MC Seunggi is officially released from Strong Heart MC duties, goodbye to this weekly Strong Heart TV Ratings tab page!  Similar to the 1N2D TV Ratings tab-to-post, this too becomes stored away as a regular Strong Heart post entry…

The ratings indicate Strong Heart was already showing signs of wear, even when Hodong was still with the show.  But MC Seunggi was a total pro and kept the show afloat until production team could find new hosts, even though the show was NOT set up to be hosted by a single MC, let alone some 24-year old dude!  Plus, Seunggi also remained even though he was planning to leave the show way before Hodong’s sudden departure.   That’s the MAJOR difference between being a happy “member” versus a true “MC” of a variety show!!!!

So hope the K-press and Strong Heart affiliated handlers, who will probably make a PR comparative case for the newly revamped show’s buzz, ratings, and new MCs veteran Shin Dong Yup (41) and Lee Dong Wook (30)…  hope, there’s no short-term memory and they remember all what Seunggi (24 at the time) did and went through.  Best wishes to the new MCs and Strong Heart!

Farewell Strong Heart MC Seunggi video [ENG] coming soon…

Variety shows airing at the same time slot are listed below.
Number in front of show indicates its top 20 rank out of all tv programs.

Goodbye to MC Lee Seunggi! (and Hodong) Thanks for the memories!

MC Lee Seung Gi’s last broadcast + YG Special, Part 1

14- SBS Strong Heart = 11.6% (Seoul = 13.8%)
* KBS 심리 버라이어티 쇼 = 2.6% (not in top 20)
* MBC 100분 토론 = 3.4% (not in top 20)

(Sources: AGB Nielsen, Osen)

KBS Win Win was supposed to air its Ha Ji Won episode but instead aired a new program it its regular time slot, indicating this was due to the ongoing strike that’s been affecting variety programs. But is it bad of me to think KBS probably does not want to give MBC The King 2Hearts any more attention then it’s already getting?!

This was MC Lee Seunggi’s very final Strong Heart filming. I haven’t watched the ep yet, but based on the preview, looks like they’ll be officially saying goodbye to him next week. I’m glad Strong Heart didn’t do an all-out Seunggi special but did a special YG episode, showcasing his MC skills with the hottest K-pop groups all on one stage.

Next Tuesday will be sad, but a happy, new, exciting start! Love the appreciation PD Park and Strong Heart’s shown for Seunggi (unlike some other programs), especially following Hodong’s unexpected departure. I’m sure Hodong’s watching and very proud. Rooting for Lee Seunggi, and also YG Family!

March 20, 2012

2am, Uee, Lee Jang Woo, Park Ji Yoon, others, Part 2

18- SBS Strong Heart = 9.2% (Seoul = 11.3%)
* KBS Win Win = 7.2% (not in top 20)
* MBC 100분 토론 = 2.3% (not in top 20)

(Sources: AGB Nielsen, TV Daily)

Woah, SBS drama Fashion King episode 2 aired right before Strong Heart and had 8.9% (Seoul, 9.5%) viewership ratings. Strong Heart, airing at later time slot had slightly higher ratings. Still surprised KBS Win Win wasn’t able to garner higher ratings for Shinhwa again; they put out a lot of press releases too.

Next week’s Win Win guest is Ha Jiwon, which will air during Seunggi’s last Strong Heart broadcast. (Way to stay classy KBS!) No more Hodong, now no more Seunggi. They were the best MC duo ever! And part of the best 1N2D family ever! Let’s hope they don’t edit out all parts with Ha Jiwon talking affectionately about our Seunggi!

Two more Strong Heart episodes left, and this page tab becomes a regular post soon… Glad they’re not doing an over the top goodbye special, but are playing it cool but appreciative by doing a combined Seunggi and YG Family special. Anticipating these final 2 episodes. And if it’s true CL gave Seunggi a lollipop on set, I’m going to love her even more! Always love the super talented and awesome 2ne1 girls!

March 13, 2012

2am, Uee, Lee Jang Woo, Park Ji Yoon, others, Part 1

10- SBS Strong Heart = 12.2% (Seoul = 12.2%)
19- KBS Win Win = 9.7% (Seoul = 10.4%)
* MBC 100분 토론 = 3.9% (not in top 20)

Wow, I thought Shinhwa’s big buzzed about comeback and first variety appearance together on Win Win would topple Strong Heart. Congrats to Strong Heart, PD and crew, and the awesome guests that were on for these great ratings! Only 3 more broadcasts with MC Seunggi~ hope everyone shows a lot of love and appreciation for him hanging in there and staying on after Hodong abruptly retired. On a side note, Win Win’s scheduled to have Ha Jiwon on… (KBS is seriously relentless, just wish they could do things with a little more class)

YG, SM, JYP representative Kpop Stars, part 2: Se7en, Seohyun, Suzy, others

18- KBS Win Win = 10.4% (Seoul = 11.9%)
* SBS Strong Heart = 9.4% (Seoul = 11.0%)
* MBC 100분 토론 = 3.1% (not in top 20)

YG, SM, JYP representative Kpop Stars, part 1: Se7en, Seohyun, Suzy, others

10- KBS Win Win = 11.8% (Seoul = 13.1%)
18- SBS Strong Heart = 9.9% (Seoul = 11.6%)
* MBC 100분 토론 = 2.8% (not in top 20)

SBS continues to show a lot of love for trendy, Kpop and Hallyu stars! But as we know, they don’t translate into high ratings. 1N2D’s Eun Jiwon guested on Win Win.

Brilliant strategic scheduling (again!) on the part of KBS – 1N2D just aired its last episode, Jiwon (and Seunggi) chose not to return for season 2, Sugeun and Kim Seung Woo will both be on season 2, and it just so happens that season 2 held a press conference earlier in the day with the new members. The press releases prior to the broadcast indicated that Jiwon, among other topics, would reveal why he decided not to do 1n2d season 2. Haven’t seen the episode yet, but looking forward to seeing the episode with Jiwon.

While all the channels tend to promote their programs and participants foremost (that’s changed more recently), no one does it better than KBS – a government-backed channel, it also has just a lot more variety programs than the others. I’m very curious if Seunggi would actually guest on Win Win after Strong Heart wraps…

Valentines Day special, part 2

15- SBS Strong Heart = 11.2% (Seoul = 12.9%)
* KBS Win Win = 8.5% (not in top 20)
* MBC 100분 토론 = 2.3% (not in top 20)

(Sources: AGB Nielsen, TV Daily)

Beast, one of the hottest K-pop idol groups were all on Win Win to close out the special episodes of guests of the show’s MCs, in this case Kikwang, and yet TV ratings were lower than the episodes with 1N2D member guests. (Idols and their mega fans usually never impact TV ratings. Which is why variety show PDs love Seunggi’s range of fans of all ages, especially the older ajummas who totally commit to all of Seunggi’s shows as long as he’s involved! LOL) Rumored news all over the internet about Seunggi leaving Strong Heart in March probably didn’t hurt either!

Viewers always want to hear 1N2D members talk about the beloved show, other members, and Hodong. Expect high ratings when choding Eun Jiwon guests next week, especially since he’ll no longer be on the show and Win Win MCs will be joining 1N2D! Whoever’s been running the scheduling of guests at Win Win recently is a genius! Talk about garnering great buzz into ratings!

Ha, we need to see Seunggi guest on Win Win once he’s no longer with Strong Heart. They’ve only talked about him ALL the time on the show! Win Win would probably have their biggest ratings ever! It would be a great way to smooth over any misunderstood feelings between MCs from both shows and their fans, and a good transition for the end of 1N2D to the new show. Plus, once people get to know Seunggi, it’s hard not to like him… that is, if they don’t think of him as competition! Hehe. He always respects and appreciates his sunbaes and hyungs, so I’d love to see him guest on Win Win.

Valentines Day special, part 1

17- KBS Win Win = 11.0%

* MBC broadcast a different program = 3.3% (not in top 20)

Win Win continued part 2 with Sugeun as main guest, previewing him talking about Hodong, his ailing wife and kids, and as expected, it brought in Win Win’s highest ratings. Lots of heartwrenching tears. Some have said Strong Heart PD has been very laid-back about the show recently, even tweeting beleaguered tweets about the show. All while KBS has been going all-out in promoting Win Win.

I think some people think or know that the end of Strong Heart may be near, or at least Seunggi’s association with the show. Strong Heart was designed around the combo of Hodong and Seunggi, not as a solo MC show, especially with so many guests. There isn’t a single top variety show out there with only one MC. I think asking him to MC on his own was expecting too much, and the PD putting all the onus on Seunggi was a bit much. He’s done all he can, with Hodong departing unexpectedly.

There’s been a new SBS show in the works for quite some time, a food-related show to be helmed by former 1N2D’s Shin PD, and Seunggi’s name has been rumored for quite a while. Lots of Seunggi fans (including me) think this is a way better fit to his personality, and that Strong Heart only works best under a combo-MC format.

Last week, Korean top online search site, Naver, “officially” listed the new show ‘Table for 100’ under Seunggi’s search page with Shin PD and his name listed… This new show, expected to start later this spring is looking more and more like a reality, and if so, I think this may mean no more Strong Heart for Seunggi…

Win Win is continuing its 100th episode series featuring the MCs as main guest. It was Sugeun’s turn, and he shed a lot of tears while talking for the first time about his parents, the hardship growing up, and his own family. Kim Byung Man also appeared on the show and sat in as one of the MCs.

It was the Lunar New Year holidays. KBS Win Win broadcast a 100th episode special. MC Kim Seung Woo sat in the place of guest, and his wife, actress Kim Nam Joo (who was the very 1st guest on Win Win) participated as one of the MCs. And for the first time, Kim Seung Woo publicly addressed rumors of him joining 1N2D season 2.

1N2D members (minus Seunggi) were on KBS Win Win. Um Taewoong was the guest, and Eun Jiwon and Kim Jongmin appeared during the surprise guest corner, joining MC Lee Sugeun. It’s not the first time the 1N2D members (minus Seunggi and Hodong) have appeared together on KBS during the SBS Strong Heart time slot. Before KBS Sang Sang Plus was cancelled (primarily due to low ratings competing with Strong Heart), MC Sugeun was joined by 1N2D members Jiwon and MC Mong.

Strong Heart and Win Win have been at the same time slot for over one year and half, and Win Win has increased its TV ratings over time, but Strong Heart continues to dominate the #1 spot. Win Win overtook the #1 spot only on two(?) occasions~ July 5, 2011 with guest Kim Jung Tae, and April 13, 2010.

A while back, TNMS Media changed their statistical methodology used to gather data on TV ratings. Since then, their new ratings tend to be generally lower than their usually higher numbers. Also, the ratings have not been as consistent from week to week. The Korean press typically uses AGB Nielsen TV ratings in their articles.

  1. As usual, the ratings of part 1 was always higher than the part 1’s, especially, the 1st episode with the new MCs could get more attention to the viewers. But I guess, the K-press’ll flatter the new MCs if the ratings of the new episode higher than Seung Gi’s last episode. LOL!

    However, I trust in Park PD’s dignity. He’s a heart-warming person, at least with Seung Gi & Airens ^^

  2. so true- loved seunggi
