D1- Seunggi’s 5th Album ‘Tonight’ dropped on October 27, which makes this Day 1 on the music charts for title song ‘We’re Friends‘ and other songs from his album. Major competition from hip-hop queen Yoon Mi Rae (SuperstarK judge, wife and mom, and together with hubby Tiger JK, they are basically Korean hip-hop royalty; think Beyonce and Jay-Z!). She released a few songs on the same day (also featuring her hubby), and Yoon MiRae and Seunggi were battling it out on the real-time charts all day. Also, in the mix is Noel, making their comeback the other day after 5 years. There’s a lot of serious competition… but it’s okay, We’re Friends is simply perfect!

D25– Because We’re Friends is up on all but Daum Charts. I’m a Singer is out with another compilation album for its Day 1, and 7 of the tracks are in the top 15 on Daum.
D20– Respected, admired, beloved singer (loved by Korean celebs) Kim Dong Ryul made anticipated comeback after 4 years! (Seunggi requested his Verandah Project song “Mountain Climbing” on 1N2D). Sung Shi Kyung is also Day 1 on the charts.
D13– Huh Gak, last year’s SuperstarK winner, overtakes the #1 spot. Seunggi and the others bounced back up the charts following previous Day 1 of Wondergirls.
D12– The Wondergirls big comeback album and (yet another!) new SuperstarK album are Day 1 on the charts. As expected, WGs are all-kill. Seunggi, SNSD, Yoon Mirae, Tablo, and recently released Brown Eyed Girls are all hanging together.
D10- The song went up on almost all the charts. Seunggi’s doing Music Bank and Inkigayo this coming weekend for like the first time in ages, so let’s hope the song stays up there! Congrats to Seunggi on his #2 place on Music Bank this past weekend! Without any official promotions! And against the super popular SNSD girls, who placed #1. But this weekend, he’ll be vying for attention along with the hot Wondergirls, also making their buzzed about comeback on Music Bank, and with backing from promotions powerhouse JYP Ent. So Hook, please prep a comeback stage and style that Seunggi really deserves AND that fits the MuBank and Inki vibe! None of that lame choir robe vest and bebop fashion stuff from 2 years ago! Jebal!~

D7- Stayed the same on Olleh/Dosirak, and moved up on all the other charts! Yay!
D6- Tablo just dropped his full album, and comeback from 4Men.
D5- It’s getting crowded. And popular singer shows (SuperstarK, I’m a Singer) are putting out new compilation albums of re-make songs from various artists like every other week! Then there’s the older, established veteran solo (Lee Seung Chul, Im Jae Bum) and group (Noel) comebacks. And the always hot idol groups consisting of at least 4 members (SNSD, Secret, Sistar). And you got the always hip and popular hip-hop sounds (Yoon Mi Rae, Tablo). I always feel like Seunggi is always his own category! It’s all about the long-run baby! And his song is still doing great!
Just watched EP1 of Lee Seung Gi’s 5-minute broadcast. He sings “Because We’re Friends” LIVE, for the first time. And OMG, I thought I was listening to the playback track! Singer Lee Seung Gi’s comeback and 5th Album “Tonight” – Daebak! Hope Hook schedules him for some of the music shows. Doesn’t make sense to have a hot star comeback (Seunggi, 24) and NOT promote on the 3 big music programs.

Hmm, that’s interesting. I guess the thing with releasing a bunch of songs at once is that it effectively ‘splits the vote’ so to speak. Do they have separate charts just for albums? I’d be curious to see the numbers stacked against each other.

The album was pretty much Daebak! It’s the epic battle between the come back artists and all of them are talented too!
It’s understanded that seunggi was not reach 1st spot this time, but considering the competitor it’s pretty much already awesome to get in top 5 list

If you check out Daum, it looks to me like all his songs on the 5th album have been a place in the Top 20 (based on count only – did not actually check the song titles individually as mostly in Korean). To me, that signifies a Daebak album !!!

I think we’re so used to LSG getting #1 or top ratings, fans aren’t used to it when he doesn’t. Yoon MiRae’s song (featuring her hubby Tiger JK) and her MV is pretty hot, and she’s a good artist. so i’m glad he’s in good company, although his style is completely in contrast.

Thanks Ann. Totally agree that the album is doing great. Besides, I don’t need any other verification at this point – I know it’s good and I love it completely. It’s really amazing given the circumstances (the shows he is hosting etc.) and the so hard to break tendency to fall back on past successes that he dares to venture out his ‘comfort zone’. So proud of him!
