Strong Heart celebrated its 1-year anniversary.  Omg, can’t believe it’s already been one year!  The show aired its first episode on October 6, 2009 and has held the #1 tv viewership spot at its Tuesday night time slot since its premiere… pretty amazing if you think about it.  Further, because of the show’s popularity and high viewership ratings, KBS is still trying to figure out how to compete against SBS Strong Heart. Due to low ratings, KBS cancelled its long-running show Sang Sang Plus and replaced it with Win Win, a show still struggling to post beyond single digit ratings.

Strong Heart is both popular and controversial.  Loved and criticized.  The show has become a must for celebs, as many of the guest names typically top the online search lists following their stint on the show.   And unlike most k-variety shows where celebs rehash the same stories, guests on Strong Heart actually share new stories, happenings, and secrets that people are hearing for the first time.

Two aspects that still totally annoy me like crazy (and majority of netizens too, including Seunggi fans) ~ Terrible, choppy editing and the number of guests.  I still don’t get what PD Park is thinking most of the time on this.  He really needs to get in touch with 1n2d’s PD Na and PD Shin for some editing advice!

Ok, enough of that and some Seunggi highlights from the ep…

MC/Announcer Choi Hwa Jung (formerly part of the original KBS Win Win rival show) was a guest.  Going on 10 years in doing her successful radio show, Hodong asks how Strong Heart can continue for 10 years too.  Her answer:  “Never let go of Lee Seung Gi.”  ha ha ha ha.

The cast of new SBS drama Doctor Champ were featured guests (Actors Kim So Yun; Cha Ye Ryun; Jung Kyuh Woon).

Kim So Yun said this was the first time she was acting opposite an actor (Jung Kyuh Woon) close to her age or younger.  Because of her mature face, she’d always been matched up with much older guys.  It was revealed, however, that the two still address one another formally, and that he does not refer to her as noona.  So of course Hodong then had to ask Seunggi about how he addresses Shin MinAh (Hodong is so obsessed with MinAh!).

Seunggi says that he still addresses her as MinAh-sshi as he’s done since day one; that he has yet to call her Noona.  Of course then everyone had to refer to his Noona song Because You’re My Woman and tease him about his relationship with MinAh.  Will Seunggi ever get a break on the whole noona thing?!

Later, Cha Ye Ryun (also in kdrama Star’s Lover that was directed by the same PD who’s doing My Girlfriend is a Gumiho) shared that she had met Seunggi previously.  This of course got everyone excited, especially Hodong…

But the story wasn’t that juicy.  6 years ago.  Seunggi was just debuting.  She was doing a fashion shoot at one of the designer’s shops and Seunggi had stopped by because he knew the designer.  She remembered that Seunggi showed up in his high school uniform.  Hodong then teased her for remembering all the details of their first encounter!  (oh Hodong, please stop!)

Cha Ye Ryun also said she had recently watched 1n2d and Strong Heart back to back with her manager, and soon after, she was contacted to be on Strong Heart.  Hodong teased her a bit more about Seunggi and she admitted she was envious of  Shin Minah getting to act with Seunggi…

Then she started giggling like crazy and then couldn’t even get her words out to continue… it looked like she was gah-gah over Seunggi.  It went on for a while.  it was cute, but I wonder if she was totally regretting when watching the ep later at home!  Hodong was of course loving this and Seunggi looked embarrassed. anyway, she closed by saying that she hoped to act opposite Seunggi in her next project.  She’s currently acting opposite Uhm Tae Woong in SBS drama Dr. Champ.

And actor Jung Gyuh Woon talked about the different actors he’s been compared to, going through a bunch of actors.  And he said Seunggi too, that is hair-wise. LOL…

Jung Kyuh Woon was starring on SBS A Thousand Times I Love You while Seunggi was doing Brilliant Legacy at the same time last year, and he said he was very envious of Seunggi’s role and drama, and so he decided to out-hair Seunggi’s Hwan hair by setting his longer and more curly! Ha. I miss Hwan’s hair; I so loved it!

Later, the guests were all talking about various celebs they have been said to resemble.  Seunggi mentioned gold medalist badminton player Lee Yong Dae…

They really do look alike!  And both are uhm-chin-ahs and very beloved in Korea.  I really hope they get a chance to meet someday!  That would be daebak since everyone’s said they look and act alike.  Tuesday’s Strong Heart was so-so, but Seunggi was his usual Master of Expressions… (credit: NANIblog)

And to  celebrate the 1-year anniversary… Strong Heart openings from Ep 1 to Ep 45 .  Congrats to Seunggi and Hodong and the Strong Heart team!  Hoping for an even better year with filled with laughter and tears!

Tuesday night~ Kang Shim Jang!

  1. i know Cha Yae Run had a crush on Seung gi since a long time.. finally she met him.. hahaha

  2. did the viewers went into any other show beside strong heart? It doesnt seem like they went to Win Win show either, but isnt the ratings is lower than usual, since its the part 1 out of 2 this time too..

BTW, I thought BOA was invited to the SH and have been looking forward to ever since the phone call, did she refuse that time?
