My Girlfriend is a Gumiho is set to air its first episode on Wednesday night and the anticipation is intense! There’s been so much buzz about the drama up to this point and so I think everyone involved may be just happy to have this first broadcast be over and done with! There are a lot of aspects that have made the drama buzzworthy (ie, SeungGi’s drama comeback, MinAh’s return to drama in 3 years, the Hong Sisters, etc), but the anticipated tv ratings competition at the Wednesday-Thursday drama time slot is probably what the Korean press is really dying to see. Especially now with the completely surprising KBS hit Baker King Kim Tak Goo having hit 40% ratings last week…
SeungGi has been fielding tons of questions about the potential tv ratings up to this point, and he of course responded in a sincere and upstanding way. Per the My Girlfriend is a Gumiho press conference interview clips, when asked about Baker King, SeungGi replied:
In the case of Baker King, I think of it as a very good drama. And with the ratings coming out that high, means that the actors, the story, many aspects make it a good drama. And so it is true that initially, I did feel very burdened and worried about it, but with our production because the teamwork is very good and when you see it, it is very fun. Plus, together with the chemistry with MinAh, the PD, and with one of the best writers… if you think of the end result, sure it may feel burdensome but because I feel that our drama alone can be very good, and so we are anticipating it as well.
And it seems Yoon Shi Yoon is just as equally humble and sincere. He first became well-known through his appearance in the MBC hit sitcom Highkick through the Roof and has experienced follow-up success in his Baker King Kim Tak Goo drama. I don’t know much about him, but he was recently on an episode of Strong Heart to promote a film and he and SeungGi were both very sincere and complimenting of one another.

Baker King’s Yoon Shi Yoon
“It’s my privilege to compete with role model Lee Seung Gi”
Actor Yoon Shi Yoon revealed his true feelings about “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho” which will be airing its first episode at the same time slot.
At the press avail for KBS Wednesday-Thursday drama Baker King Kim Tak Goo on August 10th, when asked whether he felt burdened about My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Yoon Shi Yoon said “Personally, Lee Seung Gi has been one of the role models that I wanted to be like.”
Even though Baker King Kim Tak Goo currently has 40% tv viewership ratings and is now known as a “national drama,” Lee Seung Gi-Shin Min Ah’s My Girlfriend is a Gumiho set to air on the 11th and has received a lot of attention.
Yoon Shi Yoon said, “I liked Lee Seung Gi’s hard work ethic and humility, and his passionate attitude. Therefore, it is a privilege to meet in this competitive situation. He added, “However, rather than stress about those aspects, there are a lot of other things that I have to portray. I have to also make bread and also have to maintain hope, so I feel I need to put my energies into those things.”
Yoon Shi Yoon garnered attention for showing his confidence as well as his humility by adding “However, in watching Lee Seung Gi’s acting, I feel that I have a lot of things to learn.”
Great to see both guys have a sincere but competitive attitude about the Wednesday-Thursday time slot. Curious to see Rain and Kim Hyun Joong’s response to the ratings question once their respective dramas start.
